Downtown Providence Engagement Session

A Sunny Fall Engagement Session at

Roger Williams Memorial Park, Providence RI

Nicole and Jonathan found me via Facebook giveaway for a free engagement session I held. As a photographer, I get incredibly itchy when I’m not looking at life through my camera viewfinder, so I often offer free sessions to get new people in front of my lens to photograph. I get new subjects to work with, and the couple gets a fun photo-making session with no upfront cost - EVERYBODY WINS!

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

For their session, I decided to take them to one of my favorite locations in Downtown Providence - The Roger Williams National Memorial Park. Nestled between North Main Street and Canal Street in Providence, this little slice of green space that always lets me add variety to a couples’ engagement session gallery. With all the new and old architectural elements that Providence has to offer, I love working in this green space because it automatically brings a casual air to an otherwise formal session. It’s why this park makes a cameo on my list of favorite places to make pictures in when i’m in Providence.

Not that anything is too far apart in Providence, but this park is perfectly situated. It’s just a minute or two away from Benefit Street, home to gorgeous historical homes that offer pops of color and charm for a backdrop and it’s just 5 driving minutes away from the Providence Pedestrian Bridge that is all about sleek contemporary lines and design.

Like millions of folks around the world, the pandemic upended the plans Nicole and Jonathan had in store for 2020. They decided to make the best of their situation with a free photo session. We started out at the Park and then made our way up to Benefit Street. Jonathan was not too keen on having his photograph taken, but he was pleasantly surprised that working with me was not the hell-on-earth he anticipated it to be. Not that he was expectingg me to awful, just the experience. I take my job of making things fun and unexpected and that’s just what happened.

They are still pulling together their wedding plans and like any wedding junkie, I’m hoping they pick me as their wedding photographer. I think my chances are good, given the review Nicole gave me… but I’m not one to count my chickens before they hatch!
