The Pros & Cons of DIY-ing Your Wedding Planning

Danielle and Patrick’s summer wedding at The Villa at Ridder Country Club was a brilliant example of the joys that come with hiring a professional wedding planner to manage your wedding details instead of considering a DIY option.  There are many pros to DIY-ing your wedding, but this post is to highlight to extol the virtues of having a wedding planner for your day.

The pros of planning your wedding yourself means:

  • You have complete control of all the details and if you’re a person with a vision, then this is definitely one way to ensure that your wedding day lives up to it.

  • Because you’re planning the wedding, you’re able to infuse your day with personal touches that let you show your personality. In working with couples who’ve gone this route with success, it’s been incredibly rewarding for them because very often, they learn something about themselves - a hidden skill or talent that is quite fulfilling.

  • Contrary to the DIY-term, you’re not planning the wedding entirely on your own.  Odds are, you’re relying on your friends and family for some things which leads to amazing pre-wedding bonding.

  • And last, but certainly not least, you’re saving money. Weddings are not cheap, and hiring a planner - a good one, costs a pretty penny.

However, if you’re planning an elaborate celebration that requires the input of several different vendors, then having a planner manage your wedding is golden ticket! Having complete control of all the details of your wedding means you’re the point person for all the things!  And this could mean, that instead of enjoying your wedding day with family, friends and the love of your life, you’re answering questions about things and ensuring things are taken care of. You’re the boss of your wedding and ironically your wedding day is the one day you can’t really take off.  There’s a lot of stress that comes with managing all the moving parts of your wedding, because planning weddings is harder than most people realize. It absorbs an enormous amount of time that in addition to your every day life, can become quite taxing and overwhelming.

Danielle and Patrick’s wedding planner did an amazing job coordinating their wedding. Here are some images from their wedding. Scroll to keep reading…

Danielle and Patrick’s wedding was skilfully managed by the Elle Audrey New York wedding planning company.  In addition to managing all the vendors and communicating timelines and schedules with each one, a day-of-assistant was present to manage the flow of the day and to coordinate all the vendors so that a single moment was not missed. This couple’s vendor list for the day of the wedding comprised of several different vendors, some travelling from out of state to fulfill their part of the day:

Venue: Sapphire Event Group - The Villa at Ridder Country Club

Florist: O Luxe Design Inc

Videographer: Together Forever Films

Bakery: The Chocolate Rose

Hair and Make Up Artists

Transportation: Rockstar Limo

It was an incredible experience for me as a photographer because I had someone other than the celebrants to pose my questions. I got to watch my celebrants just enjoy their wedding day without someone walking up to them to ask what was happening next. I highly recommend that you consider the advantages of hiring a planner for your wedding, and then just enjoy the ride. If you’d like a list of my favorite wedding planners, send me an email, and I’ll forward you a list!
